Belfast Historical Society Facts

Mission:
The Belfast Historical Society and Museum is dedicated to the collection, conservation, preservation and interpretation of artifacts relevant to Belfast history.

Collections:
The Belfast Historical Society & Museum proudly displays a number of objects relevant to Belfast history, along with a number of informative museum exhibits. These exhibits include:
* Maritime History — a young nation sails the great seas from Belfast.
* Percy Sanborn Painting Gallery — Belfast's 19th century fine artist.
* "At bat, on deck, in the hold" — Belfast's contribution to baseball.
* Radio Corporation of America (RCA) — Radio history made in Belfast.
* "Daredevil of the Skies" — Belfast’s native son makes a historical contribution.
* Made In Belfast — innovations and inventions recognized throughout the world.
* Poor’s Apothecary — a wonderful example of 19th century medicine.
* 19th Century two–cell jail — a good crime deterrent!
* Model Ships — Part of our collection of model ships is the Charlotte W. White circa 1876.

Facilities:
The Belfast Historical Society & Museum is located at the center of town in a brick Federal style house. The house was erected in 1835.

Hours of Operation:
June 18 – September 5 (Labor Day)
Tuesday through Saturday, 11am – 4pm
Labor Day – Columbus Day
Friday and Saturday, 11am – 4pm

Activities:

Programs are held once a month, April thru October. Most meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., Belfast. All programs are free and open to the public.
